The MSc Animal Assisted Counselling and Psychotherapy at Hartpury University is a specialist postgraduate programme designed for qualified counsellors, psychotherapists, psychologists, and mental health professionals seeking to integrate Animal Assisted Services (AAS) into their professional practice.
The programme explores the relationship between humans, animals, and mental wellbeing through a One Health and One Welfare approach. Students develop advanced theoretical knowledge, ethical understanding, practical skills, and professional competencies required to safely and effectively incorporate animals into counselling and psychotherapy settings.
The course emphasizes animal welfare, ethical practice, professional responsibility, animal behaviour assessment, training, client suitability assessment, and evidence-based therapeutic interventions. Students learn from experienced practitioners and gain practical exposure through observation, mentoring, and hands-on learning opportunities.
