The Honours Bachelor of Arts and Science (BAS) is a unique interdisciplinary undergraduate program that combines the best of both worlds—arts and sciences. Tailored for students with diverse academic interests, this program fosters both creative thinking and analytical problem-solving, allowing learners to bridge the gap between scientific research and social inquiry.
Students in the Honours BAS program develop a wide range of highly marketable skills, including:
-
Advanced research techniques in both arts and sciences
-
Strong oral and written communication
-
Critical thinking and creativity
-
Interdisciplinary collaboration and innovation
These skills prepare graduates for success in graduate studies, professional schools (such as medicine, veterinary science, dentistry, law, and education), or diverse career opportunities across multiple sectors.
Program Structure by Year
-
Year 1: Foundational Arts and Science (ASCI) courses introduce students to cross-disciplinary research methods. Students learn how to frame research questions, gather evidence, and interpret data through multiple academic lenses.
-
Year 2: Students explore case studies from both the arts and sciences, examining how social and cultural influences shape research processes and the interpretation of results.
-
Year 3: Learners participate in the Arts and Science Colloquium, a student-led research project integrating methodologies and theoretical approaches from earlier coursework.
-
Year 4: Students complete their chosen majors or minors, and have the option to pursue independent research projects, experiential learning, an Honours Thesis, or a Reading Course within the BAS framework.
Throughout the program, students continuously refine essential academic skills, including writing, public speaking, and quantitative reasoning, making them well-rounded and competitive in today’s evolving job market.
