Concordia University Chicago was founded in 1864 as a college for teachers and today is a comprehensive university comprising the College of Arts and Sciences, College of Business, College of Education, College of Graduate Studies and the College of Innovation and Professional Programs. CUC offers Graduate and Undergraduate programs, as well as Doctoral Degrees. The University is affiliated with The Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod and is a member of the Concordia University System, a nationwide network of colleges and universities.

Master Programs - Application Checklist
General Requirements
  • A completed Concordia University Chicago admission application
  • Original Personal Statement 300 words – this will be checked for plagiarism
  • Bachelor’s Degree from a recognized University, with a GPA of 2.25 and above - (CUC will perform an internal Foreign Transcript Assessment to evaluate your degree)
  • Copy of Passport
  • Two Letters of Recommendation
  • Professional Resume
Additional Requirements
  • A transfer verification form for students transferring from a school in the United States
  • Proof of English Proficiency:
    • 72 (internet-based) on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) - CUC's DI code is 1140, or;
    • 6.0 on the International English Language Testing System (IELTS), or;
    • Certificate of Completion of Program from an English Language Institute (ELI), along with a recommendation of the program director
Financial Requirements
  • Declaration of Finances/Bank Statements/Financial Guarantee – a balance of $29,600.00 USD should be shown - Other Masters
  • Declaration of Finances/Bank Statements/Financial Guarantee – a balance of $32,100.00 USD should be shown - Computer Science
  • Declaration of Finances/Bank Statements/Financial Guarantee – a balance of $32,100.00 USD should be shown - MBA Programs
  • Financial documents must not be dated over three months prior to date of submission
  • The student does have the sufficient funds to support the education
  • Documents are not addressed to another university
  • Clear Scanned Copy
  • Documents must be in English
Acceptable financial document
  • Bank statement(s) from student/close family, etc. showing current monthly statement with an ending balance
  • Bank letter stating student/family have sufficient funds in the bank
  • Sponsor's letter (affidavit or legally notarized letter) accompanied by bank statement, Sponsors- residents of the USA, must provide I-134
  • Official letter of approved loans
  • If bringing dependent family members an additional cost per year of $4,500 for a spouse 18+ and $3,000 for each child. We will also need to receive proof of relationship (such as copy of marriage certificate and/or birth certificate) and a dependent request form
Sponsor – United States Citizen provides
  • Form I-134 (affidavit of support) –USCIS required form to show that visa applicants have sponsorship and will not become public charges while in the United States. All fields must be properly completed. The sponsor must file a separate affidavit for each applicant

Sponsor-resident of another country provides
  • CUC Affidavit of Financial Support Form showing intention to support the student. The sponsor must file a separate affidavit for each applicant
  • Bank statement of sufficient funds. All bank statements and letters must have a stamp and signature from the bank
Pre-arrival Deposits
Prior to arriving into the United States, all international students are required to make two deposits in order to secure their place at Concordia University Chicago. These deposits will be credited towards your tuition and fees at the time of registration. These deposits are
  • $300 I-20 Deposit
  • $4,200 Enrollment Deposit
These deposits signify a serious commitment to attend Concordia University Chicago and therefore are non-refundable for all cases except for student visa denial.
Course Refund Policy
Dropping courses may result in a refund of tuition according the following refund schedule: 8-Week Courses (first or second half of term)
  • 100% Refund through the end of the second week of class
  • 67% Refund through the end of the third week of class
  • No refund after the third week of class
Refund policy does not apply to the I-20 or Enrollment Deposits, both of which are non-refundable for all cases except for visa denial.
Required Medical Insurance
As a condition of the F-1 or J-1 visa, the US government requires that all international students to have medical insurance while they study in the US. The Health Insurance and Wellness Fee, which is charged to all students, provides insurance that meets and exceeds the F-1 or J-1 visa requirements. Current price - $1,280 (8/1/16 – 7/30/17). Insurance prices are subject to change
Required Immunizations
Illinois State law and CUC policy requires all International Students at Concordia University Chicago to provide written evidence of current immune status, or evidence of exemption from this requirement, for the following communicable diseases: Measles (Rubeola), German Measles ( Rubella), Mumps, Tetanus/Diphtheria, Menactra (Meningitis), Tuberculosis-TB skin test
Other Required Fees
  • Technology Fee $15 per credit hour (not to exceed $195 per term)
  • Graduation Fee: $130 required of all students receiving a degree or a Certificate of Advanced Studies. Graduation fees are assessed and payable one month prior to the graduation date. An additional cost for academic regalia is the responsibility of those students participating in the graduation ceremony.
