Bachelor of applied science in agribusiness (16 months to 2 years)

This two-year program will equip you with the necessary skills, such as critical thinking, problem solving and collaborative investigation, to solve real-world business challenges.

 

Through industry focused instruction, you’ll spend the first year on campus learning how to apply business fundamentals such as finance, marketing, strategic business management, human resources, applied research, innovation and leadership. During this time you will also develop communication, networking, teamwork and time management skills while completing projects with classmates and industry clients on relevant current topics.

Work-Integrated Learning

Fourth year students of the Bachelor of Applied Science - Agribusiness program will be required to complete an eight-month Directed Field Study, providing you with a unique opportunity to apply both academic and experiential learning in the workplace with the support of identified industry mentorship.  

Credentials

Upon successful completion of this program, graduates will receive a Bachelor of Applied Science in Agribusiness.

Admission Requirements:

  • Minimum 2.5 GPA (75%) in the required credits from a diploma or degree in the study of agriculture, agriculture technology/mechanics, land, environment, or other agriculturally related fields of study.
  • Meet the English Language Proficiency Requirement

Directed Field Study Required: An 8-month Directed Field Study is undertaken upon successful completion of all third year courses. Students will develop individualized learning plans and complete the study based upon their learning goals. Upon completion of the Directed Field Study, each student will submit all required final assignments.

International Students in this program will require a Co-Op Permit, a Study Permit and a Social Insurance Number for this program.

Applicants to this program will be admitted on a first qualified, first admitted admission process. A minimum admission average of 65% is required and is calculated with the subjects below.

  • 60% or better in English 30-1

  • 60% or better in a course from Group A or B

Land and water resources diploma (2 years)

 

Open yourself up to environmental career options that will make a global impact.

 

This two-year program offers you work-integrated training in applied environmental sciences that will prepare you for careers in land reclamation, environmental stewardship and rural planning emphasizing environmentally sustainable land management practices.

 

 

In-field study and future-focused curriculum help you acquire the skills needed to manage soil, plant and water resources in agricultural and natural ecosystems. Students in this program have the option of choosing to major in two areas of specialization: Land Reclamation & Remediation and/or Environmental Stewardship & Rural Planning.

Accreditation

Graduates are eligible for membership in the Alberta Institute of Agrologists (AIA) where they can pursue the following professional designations: Agrology Technologist In-Training (ATT) leading to Registered Technologist in Agrology RT(Ag).

Graduates are also eligible for membership in the Alberta Society of Professional Biologists where they can pursue the following professional designations:

  • Biological Technologist in Training (BTT) leading to Registered Technologist in Biology (R.T.Biol.).
  • In addition, graduates of the Environmental Stewardship & Rural Planning Major are also eligible for membership in the Canadian Association of Certified Planning Technicians (CACPT), where they can pursue the professional designation of Certified Planning Technician (CPT).

Upon successful completion of this program, graduates will receive a diploma in Land & Water Resources with a major in Land Reclamation & Remediation or Environmental Stewardship & Rural Planning.

Precision agriculture (2 years)

Take an active role in bridging the gap between advancing technology and agriculture.

 

This two-year program will provide you with an in-depth understanding of how to leverage advancing technology, with the science of agronomy, to make data driven decisions that favorably impact crop production.

Tapping into the Smart Farm ecosystem, you will receive instruction from world-class leaders in agriculture, automation and artificial intelligence within the agri-food industry. Through hands-on learning, you’ll be equipped with the necessary skills to effectively integrate precision technology, with agronomy, to create systems that are both actionable and effective, for on-farm decision making.

 

 

Work-Integrated Learning

As part of the Precision Agriculture - Techgronomy program, you will complete a four-month paid internship where you will gain practical experience while developing your skills in leadership, communication, project management and data collection.

Agricultural management (2 years)

If you are looking for a career that will help feed, clothe, house or even fuel the world, you have found the right place.

Our Agricultural Management diploma program gives you a comprehensive education in all aspects of the agriculture industry through a mix of classroom time and hands-on experience on the Olds College Smart Farm.

 

You will develop a foundation of business skills, including communication, accounting and marketing strategies and be exposed to the advancement of agricultural technology, from accounting software to farm machinery. Gain an environmental understanding in the production of food, feed, fuel and fibre, livestock physiology and health, and the global issues that are currently impacting the industry. Learning from industry professionals, you will have a great understanding of farm and pest management, crop production, soil and nutrition, and Precision Crop Systems after completing this program.

Upon successful completion of this program, graduates will receive a diploma in Agricultural Management, with a major in Agriculture Production or Agricommerce.

This program is offered to students who have completed the Business Management certificate and are looking to build on the skills mastered during their first year.

 

 

Students will have the opportunity to practice applying foundational business concepts to real-world problems presented through industry partners or case studies. During the diploma, students will work closely with faculty to complete projects identifying business problems through research and the development of meaningful and effective solutions supported by evidence.

Upon completion of this program, you will have received invaluable hands-on learning experiences, along with mentorship from business owners.

Credentials

Upon successful completion of this program, graduates will receive a diploma in Business Management, with a major in General Management.

  • 2.0 GPA in the 30 credits from the Olds College Business Management Certificate program or its equivalent.

Business management diploma - Edmonton  (2 years)

 

International students are invited to take their career to the next level with the Business Management Diploma program.

 

Lay the groundwork for a successful business career in Canada with the Business Management certificate, then take it to the next level with the Business Management diploma, majoring in General Management.

 

 

In this program, students will gain an introduction to business processes and operating a business within the Canadian context. Students will be able to build on the skills mastered during their first year with hands-on learning experiences and mentorship from business owners.

Delivery: Delivered by Olds College of Agriculture & Technology at Concordia University of Edmonton, Edmonton, Alberta

Credentials: Upon successful program completion, graduates will receive a diploma in Business Management from Olds College of Agriculture and Technology.

Graduates from this program can apply to continue their education at Concordia University of Edmonton, and may be eligible for up to 54 credits towards a Bachelor of Management degree. Additional transfer pathway options can be found here.

Selection Process for Admission: First Qualified/First Admitted

  • 50% or better in English Language Arts 30-1 or 30-2
  • 50% or better in Math 20-1 or 20-2
  • Meet the English Language Proficiency Requirement
    • The College expects all applicants to meet an acceptable level of English language proficiency of an overall score of 6.0 in IELTS, a minimum band score of 6 in each component. We will require official documents such as high school or post-secondary transcripts or proof of successful completion of standardized language evaluation.
