Veterinary Technology

The Veterinary Technology Diploma at Douglas College prepares students for careers as Registered Veterinary Technologists through a combination of classroom learning, laboratory training, clinical placements, and hands-on animal care experience. Students develop expertise in veterinary nursing, anesthesia, radiography, pharmacology, laboratory procedures, surgical assistance, diagnostic imaging, and animal health management. The program provides practical training with both small and large animals in veterinary clinics, farms, shelters, and animal care facilities. Graduates become eligible to write the Veterinary Technician National Examination (VTNE) and pursue registration across Canada and many regions of the United States

Program Requirements
  • Academic Requirement: High School Graduation or equivalent. Biology/Life Sciences 11 or Biology/Anatomy & Physiology 12 (minimum C+). One Grade 12 Science (Biology, Chemistry, Geology or Physics) with minimum C+. Math 11 with minimum C. Minimum age 18 years by end of first semester.
  • ELP Requirement: Douglas College standard English Language Proficiency Requirement. Typically IELTS 6.5 overall with no band below 6.0 (or equivalent).
  • Special Requirement: Veterinary Technology Entrance Questionnaire, 80 hours documented veterinary work experience, Work Experience Log & Task Observation Form, Rabies Vaccination (3-dose series) or valid Rabies Titre Test after admission.
