Opticianry

The Opticianry Diploma at Douglas College combines health care, vision science, retail business, fashion, and technology to prepare students for a rewarding career as a licensed optician. Students gain practical training in eyeglass dispensing, contact lens fitting, optical technologies, refraction techniques, and patient care through hands-on laboratory work and clinical placements. The program provides extensive experience using modern optical equipment and simulated retail environments while developing the professional skills required for the national licensing examination. Program Requirements
  • Academic Requirement: High School Graduation or equivalent. Math 11 with minimum C- grade. Completed Optical Tour Form required. Applicants may be required to attend an interview. Criminal Record Check (CRC) required.
  • ELP Requirement: Douglas College English Language Proficiency Requirement. Typically IELTS 6.5 overall with no band below 6.0 (or equivalent).
  • Special Requirement: Optical Tour Form, Criminal Record Check (CRC), possible interview, and CAD $350 non-refundable tuition deposit after admission.
