The Basic Musicianship Certificate at Douglas College is designed for students with little or no formal music training who want to develop their musical knowledge and performance skills. Through music theory, aural training, ensemble participation, individual lessons, and live performance opportunities, students build a strong foundation in musicianship and prepare for further studies in music or related creative fields.
- Academic Requirement: General College Admission Requirements. Students must participate in a Course Placement Interview with the Program Coordinator or designated Music Faculty member to discuss music background, goals, and complete music literacy and musicianship assessments for course placement.
- ELP Requirement: There is no English Language Proficiency requirement for admission to the Basic Musicianship program. However, English proficiency may be required for certain elective courses.
- Special Requirement: Course Placement Interview is mandatory. Applicants will complete music literacy and musicianship assessments for appropriate course placement. A non-refundable tuition deposit of CAD 350 is required upon acceptance into the program.
