Computing Science

The Computing Science Diploma at Douglas College provides students with a strong foundation in programming, software development, computer systems, data structures, algorithms, and information technology. Students can choose between the General Stream and the Game Development Stream, gaining hands-on experience with industry-standard tools and technologies. The program prepares graduates for careers in software development, game development, IT support, database administration, information security, and related technology fields, while also offering transfer opportunities to leading universities in British Columbia.

Program Requirements
  • Academic Requirement: Grade 12 or equivalent. Pre-Calculus 12 with a minimum grade of B (or acceptable substitution) is required.
  • ELP Requirement: IELTS 6.5 Overall with no band below 6.0 (or equivalent approved English proficiency test).
  • Special Requirement: Pre-Calculus 12 with minimum grade B required. Students may choose either the General Stream or Game Development Stream

• Meet Douglas College General Admission Requirements.

• Successfully complete Grade 12 or an equivalent secondary school qualification.

• Pre-Calculus 12 with a minimum grade of B (or approved equivalent) is required for admission.

• Submit official academic transcripts from all previously attended institutions.

• Provide proof of English language proficiency as required by Douglas College.

• Complete and submit the college application along with applicable fees.

• Successfully complete a minimum of 60 program credits for graduation.

• Achieve and maintain a minimum program GPA of 2.00.

• Complete at least 50% (30 credits) of program coursework at Douglas College.

• Develop practical skills in programming, software engineering, database systems, computer architecture, algorithms, and user interface design.

• Choose between the General Information Technology Stream or the Game Development Stream based on career goals.

• Gain hands-on experience using industry-standard software development and game development tools.

• Students may participate in the optional Co-operative Education Program to gain paid industry experience.

• Complete all graduation requirements within seven (7) years of initial enrolment.

• Graduates may pursue careers in software development, game development, database administration, information security, systems analysis, and related technology fields.

• Students may transfer eligible credits to universities such as UBC, SFU, and UVic for further studies.
