The MSc in Applied Animal Behaviour & Welfare is a specialised postgraduate programme designed to provide students with an in-depth understanding of animal behaviour and welfare across multiple species. The course combines scientific theory with practical application, enabling learners to assess, manage, and improve animal welfare in real-world settings.
Students study core topics such as animal cognition, ethology, stress and welfare assessment, human–animal interactions, behaviour modification, and applied behavioural management. The programme emphasises hands-on learning through practical workshops, behavioural observation, laboratory work, case studies, and research projects. Students also gain experience using modern technologies and analytical tools to monitor and evaluate animal welfare.
The dissertation or research project allows students to explore a specialised area of animal behaviour and welfare, supported by academic and industry experts. Graduates are prepared for careers in animal welfare organisations, zoos, farms, research institutions, veterinary practices, conservation projects, and consultancy roles, as well as opportunities for further academic study.
