🧾 When Do You Need PAL/TAL?
- Apply for a study permit (must submit with your application)

⏳ How Long is PAL/TAL Valid?
- For 2024 study permits → Valid till Jan 21, 2025
- For 2025 study permits → Valid till Dec 31, 2025
- ❌ Can’t use expired or old PAL/TAL
🔄 When Do You Need a New PAL/TAL?
- Your PAL/TAL expired
- Your previous study permit was approved or refused
- Changing schools
- Changing study level (e.g., college to master’s)
🚫 Who Does NOT Need PAL/TAL?
- Preschool, primary, or high school students (up to Grade 12)
- Students in Quebec vocational programs (DVS, AVS, STC)
- Exchange students (no tuition paid in Canada)
- FMCSP students (special Francophone program)
- Military college students
- Global Affairs Canada scholarship holders
- Certain public policy or humanitarian exemptions
- Extending your current study permit at the same school/level
- Temporary resident permit holders (valid 6+ months)
- Protected persons or eligible permanent residents
