The Diploma in Computer Studies program provides students with a comprehensive understanding of computer systems and technologies, preparing them for diverse careers in the computing industry. This program equips students with both theoretical knowledge and practical skills essential for today’s dynamic technology environments.
Academic Requirements and Student Expectations
Students interested in this program option must maintain an above-average academic standing and demonstrate strong potential for success in their chosen professional field. This ensures readiness for both academic challenges and career demands.
Co-operative Education Work Term
As part of the program, students are required to complete a minimum four-month co-op work term (420 hours) to earn a co-op designated diploma. This valuable work experience allows students to:
-
Apply classroom knowledge in real-world computing environments
-
Develop professional skills and workplace competencies
-
Gain relevant industry experience to enhance employability
Co-op instructors coordinate with employers who provide detailed job descriptions. Students submit resumes through co-op instructors, who then forward applications and arrange interviews. Students are encouraged to actively build their professional network and engage in self-marketing to secure their co-op placements.
Employers retain the responsibility for hiring decisions, setting working conditions, salary, and benefits.
Program Duration and Start Dates
The diploma program can typically be completed within two years when started in the fall semester. Students may also begin in other semesters, but this may extend the program duration beyond two years depending on course availability and scheduling.
